Custom Chef Coats

A custom chef coat is a list of decisions made for one kitchen: cloth and weight for the room’s heat, sleeve length for the stations, pocket layout for the tools, front style for the house look — and, for most buyers, a logo that has to survive the wash. A chef coat is not a polo. The cloth is heavier, the front is double-layered on a classic style, and the garment is washed hot — often daily — for its whole life. Custom work on chef coats is planned around those facts from the first sample.

What custom covers on a chef coat

The coat itself is specced before any branding is discussed. Cloth comes first: a mid-weight polycotton twill for structure and wash durability, a lighter poplin where the kitchen runs hot. Then the style decisions — double-breasted, zip-front or single-breasted, cloth buttons or press studs, short or long sleeves, pocket layout set by what the station actually carries. Fit is graded across the full size run, with women’s fit blocks available inside the same spec. Every choice is recorded on the sealed spec, so the custom part of a custom coat is decided once and repeated exactly.

Where does a logo sit on a chef coat?

On a double-breasted coat the natural home is the left chest, placed clear of the button rows and above the pocket line so the mark stays visible when the front is crossed. Zip-front and single-breasted coats allow more freedom, and a sleeve or back yoke position works for a second mark. Whatever you choose, placement is defined in millimetres from fixed points — shoulder seam and centre front — so coat five hundred looks like coat one.

Stitching that survives the kitchen

Embroidery is the default decoration for custom chef coats because it outlasts print at laundry temperature. The digitiser sets stitch density and underlay for the coat fabric: a mid-weight twill carries a dense logo without puckering, while a lightweight poplin coat may need a backing stabiliser. Thread colour is matched to the nearest available shade and approved with you on a stitch-out sewn on the actual coat fabric — photographed for your sign-off, not imagined from a screen.

Transfers and print are possible on coats, but under industrial laundering they are the weaker choice. If your artwork genuinely cannot be embroidered, we will say so and wash-test a transfer on a sample before bulk rather than promise what the laundry will undo.

One file, every garment

Most kitchens do not stop at the coat. The same artwork is digitised once and then adjusted per surface — a cap front, a lightweight summer coat — so the logo reads identically across the set. The file, thread shades and placement records are held permanently, which is what makes a re-order a re-order rather than a fresh negotiation with the embroidery machine.
