Chef Hats, Skull Caps and Neckerchiefs

Nobody’s favourite garment is the skull cap, but the hygiene inspector’s and the guest’s eyes go straight to it. Headwear and neckerchiefs finish the uniform, and because they are small they are often bought last and matched badly. Bought with the programme, they are the cheapest consistency you can get.

The small items that show

A skull cap sits at eye level in an open kitchen, next to the coat it must match. That is why we cut headwear from cloth approved against the jacket fabric and compare whites across the two before cutting — the same discipline as the main garments. Neckerchiefs follow the same rule, and because they are cheap per piece, they double neatly as a coding tool: one colour per outlet, per rank or per day of the week, all dipped to the programme’s standard.

Caps, hats and how they wear

The working choice is between a skull cap with a mesh crown — coolest, most common in hot kitchens — a flat cap, and the traditional tall hat where the house style calls for it. All three take a logo on the front, digitised from the same file as your coats with the density adjusted for the panel, per the process under logo embroidery and printing. Caps live a hard laundry life, so the sample is washed before approval and most kitchens hold two to three per cook — they are the item most often lost, and spares in the issue pack cost less than emergency singles later. The tall hat is the exception to most of this: ceremonial as much as functional, and made where the house style genuinely calls for it.

Headwear earns its best economics bundled: added to a coat or set order, caps and neckerchiefs ride the same production run and the same colour standard, and they arrive packed into the per-person bundles with everything else.
